Before You Buy Your Eggs...

For as long as I can remember I've been passionate about God's creation, particularly a strong conviction about being good stewards of His earth and animals.  I was just doing some mild research on cage free egg production b/c I have purchased cage free for some time due to the belief it's more humane [although it's certainly not a flawless system], and I wanted to make sure that it was living up to what I had remembered and it not being one of those loose terms like "natural" can be.  After reading what the humane society wrote, I will continue to spend my 20 cents an egg buying cage free, although I am not completely happy with what I read.  Anyhow, you may find this interesting on battery cage eggs vs. cage free.  My suggestion is that you read this in it's entirety, the last part [bulleted section] is pretty eye opening and it's a fairly quick read.  My conclusion is actually a question:  Are we being good stewards of our Father's creation?

this is a subject that i've cared about for a long time. I wish to do more but don't know what. I've been buying cage-free for a long time, and I even think of having my own chickens for eggs. I could really treat them right (but we have deed restrictions and Chris says we can't do it in our yard). I'm still not sure we can't though.

Thanks for posting about this.

You might look into your deed restrictions b/c some areas allow chickens, just not roosters. It's like that around here. We've wanted to have our own chickens for a long time but I am severely allergic to fur and feathers so we are not sure it's wise for me health wise. So unless we find out otherwise we're kinda stuck too [although at least we are for sure allowed chickens!].
